Parking news story

This is my story on parking; Winchester City Council announced in a council meeting that the price of parking will increase in January next year.

Written story:

Car park users in Winchester have expressed their frustration after Winchester City Council announced plans to raise the price of parking in the city centre, writes Lee Jarvis.
The changes to the prices will vary depending on the length of stay, but the majority of changes will be in the region of 10-20p. The off-peak 'Park and Ride' service will also be increased by 50p.
Alan Rickman, Chair of Tenants and Council’s Together (TACT), said: “Why increase parking prices if they are trying to encourage people to use the car parks?”
Leader of Winchester City Council George Beckett said: “ The change is an adjustment in order to help shoppers and traders by ensuring that there are car parking spaces at the time that they need them.”
The changes will come into effect in January next year.
