WINOL and Sportsweek

The headlines for news this week were very good; they made sense, were catchy and were genuine quotes. We also had a very good news agenda as we covered the budget which was happening on the day we recorded. We managed to get a couple of semi-live updates form London which did look professional, however we should have stated that the poor quality was a result of using a mobile phone and not down to our poor filming. We also should have put 'library images' underneath our old pictures of London.

However our politics stories did have some comment which would have been hard to defend and therefore we need to ensure that we have balance, and that we are not leaning towards one party and their views.  An example would being, stating 'Osborne says' rather than 'Osborne aims' as we don't know what his aims are we only know what he has told us or what he is saying.

We had a guest this week but he wasn't minded which meant that he was left on his own and got involved with things that he shouldn't have been involved with, like the auto cue in the gallery, therefore we need to make sure in future that the guest is minded and is briefed before going on so that we known what he is planning to say but also to ensure he knows what is going on. When the guest was interviewed we didn't have any responses to the things he was saying which was also a problem because the guest was then controlling the interview, and he should never have been allowed to pull something out of his pocket as this could have been a major problem. If something like that happens again we need to make sure that we cut to something else and don't let him pull something out of his pocket.

Also we did well to update our OOV on the hobbit and the story on the olympics was also good as there was an obvious amount of hard work that went into it and a good use of copyright free images.

Sport was good again this week and thanks to the advice of Angus we manage to improve our packages which probably had to much detail in the scripts, and just smoothed out any unnecessary cut aways or clips.
