WINOL and Sportsweek

This week's bulletin was probably the best we have done yet, it was a really good effort. I thought that packages improvement is there for all to see, it looks like a different team of people have created it compared to the first bulletin this year. We had very few technical problems, all worked hard for each other to get stories in on time and the whole news room seemed a lot calmer. I was very pleased with the sports team because i managed to get our guest in the day after he had been appointed as boss of Basingstoke Town. The whole team reacted so well to the news that the old manger had been sacked and found clips which could be used in a oov, but also thought up questions and were rapid in preparing a sportsweek that would have to be created on Wednesday morning, giving us much less time to edit.

I thought the highlight for me this week was the Bison package which was described as having no faults! The graphics made by Henry looked very proffesional and also helped the audience understand the score of the game. I was also pleased with my own presenting at the last minute and how cooly i acted in front of camera, allowing me to remember the questions i wanted to ask in one take. Previously this would have taken a lot longer!

In the debrief we were as always given useful advice, i was told that i had a good sue of natural sound and it was good not to talk over the PA announcer, i also had good shots in my package that were well filmed. The court reports need pictures otherwise they are not a story for TV. The shots need to be the place were incidents happened or actors acting out the crimes to make it worthy of TV, otherwise it is just a text story and only good for the website.  The links to the stories are too short and need to explain more about the story before the package itself then explains and illustrates more.  We also need to make sure that any interviews aren't done next to brick walls because this looks strange and signs are not interesting at all!

However the bulletin not being ready for 5 is an issues because it means that our views are reduced when people look for the bulletin and its not their for 5, viewers do not wait for it to be uploaded and instead they do not come back to the site every again. We need a clean take of the bulletin so that it doesn't have to be edited and sorted out in production. By sorting it in production it takes longer to upload and the bulletin is not ready.

It was again mentioned that quotes are desperately needed because they make the packages interesting for TV, without this the packages are worth very little because faces are interesting and news is about people. However this week we did have a few good quotes. We also need to make sure that we don't ask questions in the headlines, and have who, what, where, when, why in the written articles.
The word 'believe' has now been banned because we don't know what people believe we only know what they have said.

We now need to make sure that our standards in the next few bulletins do no drop.
