After last week i think that everyone knew that improvements had to be made this week; technical problems, a late bulletin and poor filming is expected on week one, but through experience and striving to correct everything we did wrong, this bulletin should be better. Unfortunatley a lot of stories fell through this week and caused the bulletin to lack serious news and was therefore on the short side compared to last week. Martin Horn felt that the bulletin was very good which was pleasing to hear!
His tips to us were to record extra headlines in case something falls through or in case a story which we are not sure will happen, does in fact happen. This is something we have already done with Sportsweek as we were unsure if the Eastleigh game would go ahead, and therefore recorded another headline just in case; therefore we still had our 3 headlines. He also said never to use the same words in a intro and the package, this is something we already knew and shouldn't have happened.
He also suggested that we don't call a story exclusive unless it really is exclusive which our story with Steve Brine wasn't. We need to save that word for bigger stories such as FOI requests.
Martin Horn was very happy with sport and even said that it was already good enough for any regional station which obviously the sports team were delighted with. He was very happy with the sports presenting and felt that our writing to pictures was very good.
He managed to hit our deadline this week which was also pleasing but needed as well. For one of our smaller bulletins i think it went very well.
I thought that sport went well and our packages looked good despite losing 4 football matches to ice and snow on the weekend. It was looking like we wouldn't have much sport, but the Eastleigh game went ahead and turned into a very good package despite the freezing weather! Ice Hockey was again very good and this week it was good to see that we did not have any technical problems with the size that we filmed in and therefore our shots were not stretched or distorted. I thought that all packages improved in quality.
We included an oov on the frozen pitches which had extremely boring pictures but i felt that it was a story that needed to be told as it was a big sporting story over the weekend as a result of the number of games that were called off across all divisions in the country.
I think Sportsweek went very well this week because we were ambitious to get a guest to interview in the studio, which we haven't done so far. I think this went very well and looked very professional. The directing from the studio was good and the cutting to different cameras look very good. We made sure we warmed up our guest first and i think this is evident in the interview as he speaks freely and doesn't look uncomfortable.
We included only two packages as a result of fixtures being called off which i thought would be a problem. We also had a motorsport feature which didnt go ahead due to the weather. However with some quick thinking from the team we managed to get a cricket feature and a guest which went very well so i was very pleased.
Presenting also went well and i though Louis looked very natural and did well during the live interview with Steve Moria. Technically we had very few problems which was also pleasing.
