Restaurants in Winchester will soon be rated under a new food hygiene system, writes Lee Jarvis.
Winchester City Council have adopted the new scheme, to replace the old 'safe to eat scheme', as part of a National move.
As well as restaurants, pubs, supermarkets and take-away outlets in the city will be marked on a scale of nought to five: nought meaning 'major improvement needed' and five meaning 'very good'.
Stickers and certificates will be given to the food outlets to place in their windows voluntarily to display their rating, but the council want to make it a legal requirement.
Kevin Gosling, Head of Health Protection at Winchester City Council said "Winchester will benefit because customers will know they are getting the same system that is applied nationally."
The Council say the system will hold more significance than the previous system and will encourage better food hygiene.
