Saturday 9th of April saw an abundance of different sporting action; from a full schedule of football from across the leagues, the biggest horse race of the year in the form of the Grand National at Aintree, formula 1 qualifying in the Malaysian grand prix and day 3 of the masters golf.
Starting with the 164th running of The Grand National. Ballabriggs ridden by Jason Maguire won the race ahead of Oscar Time and last years winner Don't Push it; ridden by experienced jockey Tony McCoy. Ballabriggs entered the race in fine form and the 10 year old horse was slays believed to have the ability to win this famous race.
In Forula 1 Jenson Button qualified in pole position for the Malaysian grand prix, which races tomorrow. Rory McIlroy of northern Ireland is the overnight leader on day 3 of the masters, leaving him on 10 over par going into day 4.
Saturday afternoon presented an interesting afternoon for football across the english divisions, Manchester United extended their lead at the top of the Barclays Premiership to 10 points with their 2-0 win over Fulham at Old Trafford. Arsenal in second place do however have two games in hand.
At the bottom of the Premiership West Ham United didn't do their relegation fears any favours with a heavy 3-0 defeat at Bolton.
In the Championship QPR lost 4-1 to struggling Scunthorpe United while Reading extended their good run against fellow promotion hopefuls Nottingham Forest at the County ground.
In league 1 Southampton continued their charge for automatic promotion with a 2-0 win, while Charlton Athletic and Oldham and drew a blank at Boundary Park, Charlton's first 0-0 draw for 57 games; the last stalemate also against OLdham at Boundary Park!
In league 2 Gillingham won 4-0 at Lincom City, despite the Kent side's famously bad away form. There were goals galore in the conference with Luton and Fleetwood managing 6-0 victories, Barrow winning 5-0, Hayes and Yeading winning 4-0 and Crawley Town winning promotion to the football league as champions of the division, with a 2-0 away win.
