WINOL and sportsweek- week 3

This week i felt that both the bulletin and Sportsweek went very well and look very good, i think that packages are getting stronger and stronger and there are a lot less technical errors. I think that there were a lot more stories this week and they were stronger as well. We did have a though issues with hard-drives and computers this week but that inst something that could be helped.

From last week we knew that we had to make headlines better I think that we made a conscious effort to do that, however there was a lack of talking between the reporters and the headline and script writers meaning that as a result some of the headlines and captions did not makes sense together or contradicted each other and therefore this is something that we need to work on.

We keep updating twitter as well so that our followers and our viewers know what we are up to and know where to come for sporting updates, on sport we have made sure that we are constantly updating twitter. We also need to make sure that stories can be understood after one view, an opportunity is missed if they are not understood after one go because people will not go back to find out what the story was about. Once again last week captions were too big but i think that was sorted this week and we even tried out new strap lines and scoreboards in Ice Hockey which i thought looked so much better and made watching Ice Hockey so much easier for the viewer. We didn't however take the advice from last week and not make sport the last headline, the 'and finally' story can take that position.

One thing that i was conscious of this week was our audience for sportsweek. We are getting more individual views for our videos on the you tube site than we are for sports week, adding all our individual views together we worked out we are getting around 800-900 views a week for all our content which is spread out because we are putting all the videos up together and our audience are just looking at the videos they want to view rather than sportsweek itself, this is something i am looking into and considering not putting individual videos up until Thursday when sportsweek is already up.

Sportsweek this week lacked stories but unfortunately this was beyond our control, as we had technical issues with a camera and games called off due to snow and ice. But what we did have was good. Our tables that we created looked good and showed the audience where their teams are in their respected divsions. The Malone story needed a picture of Malone however, or pictures which related to him, otherwise the story itself was hard to explain and not very visual. It probably would have been a better written story.

I felt that my first package was a good attempt and our guest editor and the BJTC inspectors were happy with it, however i could have improved natural sound, maybe got closer in on some shots and needed to stay on some shots longer than i did. But the crowd shots were good as we got reaction from the supporters and we used the second camera very well. It was also interesting to be told that kids in a crowd at football games can be filmed because by jumping in the way of the camera they are giving consent.

All in all it was a very god bulletin and sportweek.
