After viewing the WINOL news bulletins on several previous occasions, this will be the first time that I have looked critically, looking for good points and things which could do with improving.
Firstly the opening of the WINOL news bulletin looked fine, with a professional look to the start of the programme, the main stories and a good introduction from the presenter to introduce himself and the stories; this was an impressive start to the programme.
The reports each had their own good points however I thought that they maybe lacked some enthusiasm; especially in the football report, as the reporters sounded like they were reading the report out rather than selling the story to the audience. However I think the reports themselves had a professional look to them with a variety of clips being showed to get across the points being made, and each had a relevance to students or the town of Winchester, such as the Course fees report, the housing report and the Queen in Southampton, despite this being aimed less towards students.
However during two reports quotes were shown on screen, but in very different ways. To me this showed a lack of consistency and I feel it would be better to have a set background or a moving image to display quotes on, rather than changing this for every story; from a black background to a moving image.
Overall the sound on most of the reports seemed very good, however I noticed two clips, including the story about the queen, we were unable to understand what was being said, making it hard to understand the story. I think that the stories were displayed in the right order and ending with sport would have been a good finish to the bulletin.
There were very few mistakes, however there were a few minor slips ups from the presenters towards the end of the programme, and the female presenter looked as though she wanted to laugh at one point. However more importantly was the spelling mistakes during the sports report.
Finally I feel that it would have been better to alternate the presenters so that they read one story each, rather than one presenter reading for one half of the bulletin and the other presenter reading for the other half.
Good analysis - the students working on Winol find it very useful to hear what the audience makes of the bulletin. You've made some excellent points on the delivery of the bulletin - next time around maybe look at the editorial content in more detail, the angle of the story etc...
